I asked her but she wasn't very helpful.
She drew a blank expression and said all she knew was that you had do be looking for work for at least 6 months and that you should talk to your Incapacity Advisor.

Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

It says in the front of the form they gave me that I've got it because I've been on Job Seekers Allowance for 6 months or more.

I'm back in on Tuesday so I'll ask my advisor about it for you.

Do you know what the criteria are for getting a self marketing voucher? :?:

I'm asking because I'd love to get off incapacity benefit (of which I actually receive zero, but that's another story), and I wondered whether I might be entitled to a self marketing voucher, assuming my recent surgery has been a success.

 I wonder whether Google, might be interested in a self marketing voucher. They head-hunted me a couple of years ago, but the issues with my neck scuppered my chances. Maybe if the repairs have gone well, and I bribe them, they'll want me this time. ;)

Are you Worth £1000 ?

Postby linz71 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 4:40 am

Yesterday I went for a reveiw at the Job Centre so was expecting the usual talking down to, telling me what a bad example I am to my children and that should I take this job that no one else wants, I would be a whole £20 per week better off after working 20 hrs. So technically compared to my current income I would be working for £1 per hour!

To my surprise no jobs were offered they didn't even ask if I'd looked. Instead they spent over an hour telling me bout the new government incentive that was launched on 6th April. Which makes me a potential guinea pig. I was given an A4 application form which was told have to keep in pristine condition.

The form is titled 'Recruitment Subsidy - Self Marketing Voucher' and starts of with the following statement:

'Dear Customer,

As you have been claiming JSA for 6 months or more, you could be worth up to £1000 to a new employer.'

I am supposed to give this to any potential employers as an incentive to employ me. The government will pay them up to £1000 to employ me for at least 26 weeks. To ensure that they don't get their grand then sack me after only a couple of weeks employment they get £500 at the start and £500 after 26 weeks.

I asked what was to stop them sacking me after they'd got the second payment, the answer I got was
"....Erm......... I don't know. It will only last until the government runs out of money again anyway"

I still think there will be plenty of people out there that will abuse this and employ people long enough to get the first £500 and then find and excuse to sack them then get someone else in for a few weeks. And under the current job climate I would think there will be plenty of unsuspecting takers too.
